Description

Our hollow body bass is an improved replica of an early Kay Electric bass. The improvements are in the areas that won’t affect the tone of the bass, such as the addition of a larger dove tail neck joint and a two way truss rod. The original had neither, and those were the main problems. Other features new to our guitars are the use of the solid maple sides as well as the hand carved arched back. The top is of 3/16th birch plywood. The unique pickup was recreated in every detail to capture its awesome tone. The alnico bar magnet is hand ground and polished then nickel plated. The coil and metal pickup assembly are handmade and non-potted for the microphonic tendencies to come through like an acoustic bass. The construction of the top and braces inhibit feedback and are a perfect match with the pickup. In essence, it is picking up the vibrations from the body inside via the metal assembly which is microphonic. The result is a punchy acoustic tone when played through an amp or into a recording console.
